For 2009, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has released new mandatory cyber security compliance initiatives to protect energy and utility companies, called CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection). CIP was developed by the North American Energy Reliability Council (NERC). These new regulatory standards, CIP-002 - CIP-009 were designed to protect energy and utility companies with specific focus on cyber security.
